O cômico do discurso: contribuições de Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca para o estudo da técnica argumentativa e da análise da técnica no Projeto Nova Retórica

Abstract

This doctoral thesis aims to study and present Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca's theoretical contributions to the New Rhetoric Project (PNR). Specifically, we will focus on analyzing her work The Comic of Discourse, published in 1974, following the publication of Treatise on argumentation: the new rhetoric, a work produced by her and Chaïm Perelman and published in 1958. As part of a larger project, her work must be approached in relation to this project, but with the aim of understanding the specific contributions of Perelman and, especially, Olbrechts-Tyteca. In this sense, we must also consider Olbrechts-Tyteca's entire theoretical production since 1950, especially Treatise on Argumentation, in order to understand the specific contributions of each to the PNR. Using linguistic historiography as a theoretical and methodological approach, we first contextualize his intellectual production and its relevance to the rhetorical turn employed in Perelman's research, understanding how the PNR came to be. From this context, we can identify the importance of comedy and literature in Olbrechts-Tyteca's work, as well as Eugène Dupréel's influence on the PNR. We then analyzed Le comique du discours, identifying elements that connect and separate the theoretical contributions of Olbrechts-Tyteca and Perelman. Among the elements that point to Olbrechts-Tyteca's own theoretical developments, we highlight the comic technique of discourse and the analysis of technique as central to defending his intellectual contribution to the PNR with Perelman, as well as to the field of rhetoric and argumentation. The results obtained in this research corroborate the thesis that Olbrechts-Tyteca's contributions are theoretically relevant to the PNR (WARNICK, 1997; FRANK, BOLDUC, 2010; BOLDUC, 2020). These results illustrate these specific contributions, demonstrating Olbrechts-Tyteca's theoretical relevance to the PNR. Finally, these results allow us to reflect on how such contributions can impact the analysis of argumentative discourse undertaken within the scope of New Rhetoric itself.
