Impactação de caninos permanentes superiores: etiologia, diagnóstico e tratamento

Abstract

Due to both the aesthetic and functional importance that the permanent upper canine exercises in the dental arch, the study of its impaction under the aspects of etiology, diagnosis and treatment is important. The irruptive failure involving the permanent upper canines constitutes a clinical irregularity with significant prevalence in dentistry, the teeth being the most common targets of impaction after the third molars, especially in the palatal region, even in the presence of sufficient space for their alignment in the dental arch. Accordingly, it is also important to mention the complications caused by the negligence of intervention in relation to the retained canine that can trigger from bad positioning of the arch to cystic formation. It is also important to highlight the etiology suggestions of the impacted canine, such as its long and tortuous eruption path, the lack of the eruption guide of the adjacent lateral incisor, the lack of space in the dental arch, the deflection of the canine from its normal path due to crowding of other teeth and systemic problems. The most specific diagnostic method for proving the retained canine is panoramic radiography where we can see an overlap between the crown of the canine germ and the root of the lateral incisor. Thus, the objective of this work is to carry out a study covering the etiology, diagnosis and treatment of such disorder since it is important that the dentistry professional has knowledge and preparation in the face of such a clinical situation, thus being able to quickly act in the best possible way for the resolution the problem and establishing the proper position of the canine.
