"Eu sou bicha, eu sou gay, eu sou viado, eu sou o que você quiser”: pequenas histórias de drag queens da cidade de Juiz de Fora (MG)

Abstract

Developed on an interpretative qualitative approach, the present study seeks to reflect upon the linguistic performances of drag queens from the city of Juiz de Fora (MG), pursuing to contribute with the recent works in applied linguistic. Once understood that drag queen’s performances are parodistic styles and stylistic reiterations with a critical potential to subvert sexist systems, the proposal of a discursive analysis of those performances allows a decolonial, anti-essentialist linguistic reflection, which permeates issues of gender and sexuality. Based on the studies of narrative analysis, this research proposes a reflection on the biographical repertoires of those artists from a translingual perspective, diverging from a monolithic and a colonialist point of view of language. Starting from decolonial studies and the epistemologies of the South, as well as issues of gender and sexuality, which permeate the subjectivity of these artists, the present work seeks to think about the importance of parting ways with a limiting concept of language, which potentially marginalizes and erase certain linguistic repertoires. To reflect upon the issues discussed this theses is divided in seven chapters: 1) Introdução; 2) Performatividade Drag: Teorias e Discussões; 3) Decolonialidade: Resgatando os Saberes Ausentes; 4) Ideologias, Performatividade e Práticas Translíngues; 5) Metodologia; 6) Reflexão Sobre os Dados; 7) (In)Conclusões. The arguments proposed, based on the epistemological perspectives mentioned, seeks to draw a theoretical and analytical pathway for the contemporary linguistic studies that aim for social and cognitive justice.
