Tolerância religiosa na obra Lenço-Relíquia, de Stela Câmara Dubois

Abstract

Lenço-Relíquia is a novel published by the religious education board and publications of the Brazilian Baptist Convention (JUERP) in 1971. It narrates, in the scenario of the second war, the relationship between two families with different belongings. The literature is authored by Professor Stela Câmara Dubois and its analysis is done through the mapping of the autobiographical space and the relationships between her life and the construction of characters and discourses around tolerance. The exhibition of the theme begins with the presentation of the origins of College Batista Taylor-Egídio founded in 1898, located in the city of Jaguaquara - Bahia. This, for being a pioneer in religious education with Protestant roots, becomes a kind of "pedagogical laboratory" over fifty years of work of the author. In its methodology, the study is based on the concept of autobiographical space created by Philippe Lejeune, “the autobiographical pact” (2008). This choice is given because it represents a greater identification with the type of analysis outlined in the research. The development of studies on tolerance is also used in Clodoaldo Mengelle Cardoso's research “Tolerance and its limits” (2003). These two references approach the extratextual information and characteristics of the characters during the analysis of the work. It was sought, in the reflection between author and work, the influence of Stela Câmara Dubois' narrative choices and how these are correlated to the elements of her life and artistic intention. In structuring the research, the first chapter highlights the synthesis of the book and the contextualization of the author's life and work. In the second chapter, the concepts of tolerance and autobiographical space are presented. The third chapter shows the mapping of excerpts from the work and the analysis of the characters, correlating with extratextual information and the results of the evidence around religious tolerance.
