A construção do ethos de erudição nas Noites Áticas, de Aulo Gélio

Abstract

This dissertation presents an investigation into the development of the ethos of erudition of Aulus Gellius, whose work Noctes Atticae (Attic Nights) dates from the 2nd century B. C. For this, we analyze excerpts in which the author engenders a delimitation of what he considers to be a scholarly model. This demarcation takes place through an argument based on other referential authors and reflections arising from a path of intellectual formation, during the stay of its editor in Attic territory. Thus, while a characterization of the ideal is started, Gélio submits himself to the parameters presented by him and begins a process of elaboration of a discursive behavior that is aligned with what his molds of a cultured, erudite man represent. The rhetorical construction that results in a discursive persona diffused in the text is our object of study. We investigated several excerpts, to demonstrate how the manifestations of an established image with discursive intention on the part of its speaker are presented. These events are arranged throughout the 398 chapters of the work, now investigated to be elucidated by us in this work.
