Prótese removível associada à implantes: uma alternativa pós tratamento de carcinoma mucoepidermóide no palato

Abstract

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most frequently found malignant salivary gland tumor in the oral cavity and its treatment usually results in functional deficiencies that affect quality of life. Appropriate oral rehabilitation, which includes the use of removable partial dentures associated with implants, would significantly minimize the side effects of cancer treatment, providing an improvement in patients' quality of life. Thus, the objective of this case report is to elucidate rehabilitation with removable prosthesis associated with implants as an alternative to alleviate the side effects resulting from the surgical removal of a mucoepidermoid carcinoma located in the palate region. The patient came to the clinic with a clinical picture of cleft palate, reporting having undergone surgery to remove a mucoepidermoid carcinoma. During the examination, there were difficulties in phonation, swallowing, aesthetics and chewing. The treatment plan was to perform a palatal obturator plate using a removable partial denture associated with implants, in order to ensure greater retention of the removable denture. During clinical follow-up for 6 months, there were no signs and symptoms of discomfort, as well as the involution of damage resulting from the oncological process. Through the obturator function of the removable partial denture, phonetics and the ability to ingest food and liquids were restored; while the artificial teeth returned the masticatory and aesthetic function, characterizing the success of the therapy instituted. It can be concluded that the proposed treatment was effective in restoring the patient's quality of life after câncer.
