Prevenção de fratura patológica por meio de fixação rígida após remoção da lesão cística associada ao terceiro molar incluso em região de ângulo mandibular: relato de caso clínico

Abstract

The dentigerous cyst is the most common developmental odontogenic cyst of epithelium-lined cysts. It can appear in association with any unerupted tooth, but its incidence is higher in mandibular third molars. These pathological changes can weaken the mandible and predispose mandibular body and angle fractures. The aim of this study is to report a clinical case regarding stable internal fixation as a preventive strategy for a fracture after removal of a cystic lesion associated with an unerupted third molar in the mandibular angle region. This is a descriptive observational study, of a 58-year-old female patient who underwent the proposed surgical procedure, after signing a voluntary informed consent form. The conclusion was that, the correct diagnosis of the case, the knowledge of the characteristics of the lesion and a thorough study of the remaining bone structures provided an adequate preventive plan, and together with the use of mini-plates to meet the patient's needs, was a sufficient measure to avoid post-operative fracture and possible future complications.
