A permanência semântica na tradução audiovisual: uma análise da legendagem pela ótica da semântica de frames

Abstract

The focus of this research is the semantic permanence in subtitling as a modality of audiovisual translation. For the purposes of this study, we carried out a research on the limitations of space and time present during the subtitling process, the types of solutions resulting from such limitations and how they can affect the information in the semantic scope during the translation between two text modalities -spoken and written - present in the work in addition to the changes already present and expected in a translation restricted to the written modality. In order to track the results of these changes in terms of semantics, it was necessary to collect, process, analyze, and compare the frames evoked by the subtitles and by the speech of an audiovisual work. A season of the tourism documentary series Pedro Pelo Mundo was chosen. The choice of this work was made because it relates to other research already under development at FrameNet Brasil; complementing what has already been researched in the fields of research in multimodality and Computational Linguistics. The analysis was carried out according to the theory of Semantics of Frames, with a methodology created by the laboratory of FrameNet Brasil for carrying out research in multimodal corpora. With the processed and analyzed data in hand, it was possible to compare the data with another multimodal research on translation and creation of subtitles for still images, carried out by Viridiano et al. (2022). The comparison between the results obtained by this research and the previous study led to relevant findings about subtitling as a form of Audiovisual Translation, the semantic permanence in subtitling and translation.
