As influências dos modais de transporte na economia brasileira: uma análise insumo produto

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to identify and analyze the impact of different transportation modals on the Brazilian economy. The input-output method was used based on the matrix developed by the University of Sao Paulo Regional and Urban Economics Lab, which covers the Brazilian economic landscape in 2018. Tests of Hirschman-Rasmussen indices were conducted for backward and forward linkages to identify intersectoral dependencies of transportation modals in the national production chain. Additionally, the hypothetical extraction technique was applied to assess the sectoral effects on production and employment for each transportation sector. The conclusion reached is that the national transportation chain is highly dependent on land transportation modes, as this was the only transportation sector classified as a key sector in the economy, and it also generated the most impact with its hypothetical extraction. Therefore, it would be necessary to create public policies that promote the development of other transportation modals, aiming for greater efficiency and competitiveness in the Brazilian transportation network through intermodal transportation.
