A importância do cirurgião-dentista na abordagem interdisciplinar para o tratamento das fissuras labiopalatinas: uma revisão discutida da literatura

Abstract

Cleft lip and palate, commonly known as harelip, is a prevalent congenital malformation affecting the face due to a failure in the fusion of facial processes during embryonic development. Its etiology is multifactorial, involving complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors. The treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate is complex and requires a comprehensive approach, with a fundamental role played by the dentist. This review aimed to analyze the literature on the importance of the dentist in the interdisciplinary treatment of these patients. Based on the analysis of various scientific articles published over the last ten years, it is concluded that the dentist plays an essential role in early diagnosis, planning, and execution of dental interventions, which are crucial for the overall success of the treatment. Furthermore, the integration of proper dental treatment with other therapeutic interventions significantly contributes to improving the quality of life of patients, reducing the psychological impact associated with the deformity.
