Gênero e jornalismo: um estudo dos textos informativos e de opinião sobre a morte de mulheres famosas na editoria Ilustrada da Folha de S.Paulo

Abstract

This work reflects on the impact of journalism on the perpetuation of machismo, misogyny and prejudices towards women, questioning the possibility of developing more humanized and pluralistic journalistic narratives. To contribute to strengthening the debate on themes related to gender in journalism, this research seeks to understand the framing of Folha de S.Paulo's journalistic texts about the deaths of famous women in obituaries, opinion texts and newsletters from the Ilustrada editorship. The theoretical basis is based on Constructionist Theories and Decolonial Feminism, establishing dialogue with several authors to understand the role of objectivity and subjectivity, newsworthiness criteria and the limits of the opinionated journalistic genre in storytelling. Qualitative methodology, guided by content analysis and framing analysis, was used to reveal what is implicit in each text. In total, 18 texts published between 2021 and 2023 were analyzed, covering singers Marília Mendonça, Gal Costa, Rita Lee and Sinéad O'Connor, journalist Glória Maria and actress Aracy Balabanian. As a result, it is possible to affirm that the repetition of hegemonic views in several texts, even when they chose to highlight disruptive behaviors and characteristics, demonstrates that journalism still has difficulty seeing and constructing narratives about women that distance themselves from the patriarchal ideals that govern the Brazilian society.
