Sofrimento e adoecimento psíquico docente: uma investigação sob o olhar da logoterapia e análise existencial de Viktor Frankl

Abstract

This research is within the theme of suffering and/or illness among teachers, bringing to the center of our investigation such problem arising from the result of the transformations that took place in the teacher´s work area. We start from a main question: What perceptions are reported by teachers about suffering and/or illness among teachers and what consequences this process can have on relationships established in the school environment? This is a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive research work that uses as a main theoretical contribution Logotherapy and Existencial Analysis, a theory developed by Viktor E. Frankl. It has the general objective of investigating perceptions reported by teachers about suffering and/or illness among teachers as well as the consequences of this process on relationships established in the school environment. This research is aimed at primary school teachers in the public school system, who are fully practicing their profession and who present or have presented a psychological state of suffering and/or illness. To investigate this problem, individual interviews were conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire, which were recorded and transcribed. Data analysis was based on the results obtained in the interviews, which were presented, organized and studied using thematic analysis. Through this methodology, it was possible to investigate the responses given by educational institutions to this problem, as well as, to know the strategies used by teachers in facing adversities experienced in the school environment.
