Uma mordida na maçã: uma análise diacrônica das personagens femininas nas traduções intersemióticas de Branca de Neve

Abstract

The object of analysis of this undergraduate thesis are the characters Snow White and the Evil Queen, the female protagonists of the tale “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1812), as well as of the Disney Studios adaptations “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937), the first season of the series Once Upon a Time (2011) and the feature film “Snow White and the Huntsman” (2012). The aim of this study is to analyse how historical and social changes have influenced the female protagonists of the referred 19th century tale and their consequences for the structure of fairy tales. In order to conduct this research, the multidisciplinary theoretical framework consists of fairy tales and their connection to Romanticism (Ribeiro Filho, 2021; Ceia, 2009; Barsotti, 2015; Eliade, 1972 [1964]; Goés, 2009; Neikirk, 2009; Compagnon, 1999), female characters in fairy tales (Ceia, 2009; Jung, 2016; Barsotti, 2015; Ulivieri, 1999; Neikirk, 2009; Baker-Sperry and Grauerholz, 2003; Nanda, 2014;) and intersemiotic translation (Plaza, 2013; Vermeer, 1989; Reiss and Vermeer, 2014; Even-Zohar, 2015 [1999]). The analysis was carried out by means of qualitative methodology, based on the concepts of Yin (2016) and the use of categories of analysis (Carlomagno and Rocha, 2016). As a result of this work, it can be concluded that there is indeed a change in the behaviour of the female characters that reflects the historical moment in which the adaptation was made. The intersemiotic media also plays a significant role in changing the narrative format of fairy tales.
