Globo Repórter: a construção narrativa sobre o Japão e a reconfiguração do papel social do jornalista

Abstract

In this research, we analyze how journalists, as social actors, promote intercultural dialogue in travel reports on the Globo Repórter program. With the aim of understanding how travelfocused episodes of the Globo Repórter program have changed over the years, we explore the narrative techniques and strategies used by journalists to create engaging, informative stories that are guided by ethics and social responsibility. By contextualizing Travel Journalism, a specialized genre within Literary Journalism, we explore its specialization process and its characteristics and strategies, focusing mainly on the figure of the journalist. Through a brief historical retrospective of Globo Repórter, from its debut in 1973 to the present day, as well as Japanese culture, we observe the reconfiguration of the program and the changes in the role that journalists played in the reports. Based on this context and looking at the selected episodes from Japan, we applied Critical Narrative Analysis, proposed by Luiz Gonzaga Motta (2013), with the aim of finding incidences of the Seven Movements proposed by the author and, thus, making a comparison about the figure of the journalist over time and the narrative strategies employed by him in the preparation of the report. For this, five episodes from different decades about the country were used. After carrying out this study, we were able to prove that there is an intentional strategy by the narrator at all moments of the report, that is, behind the maintenance of certain points of view, there is a strategic construction being made by the narrator all the time, with the aim of provoking certain impressions, feelings or identifications in the viewer. In addition, we understand that the closer the journalist gets, and moves away from the distant and objective stance of a mere mediator, as occurred on Globo Repórter over the years, the more the possibility occurs for the viewer to penetrate the aspects of the report and be impacted and identify with the information.
