Estudo sobre carreira profissional: o desconhecimento da contabilidade na educação básica

Abstract

This study aims to identify the reasons why many young people complete high school without knowledge of the accounting profession. The research field comprised basic education schools in the city of Governador Valadares, in the state of Minas Gerais. The research problem was developed around the following question: how is accounting disseminated throughout basic education to encourage the choice of the profession? The methodology adopted was qualitative, with an exploratory and descriptive approach. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, and the data were analyzed using interpretative analysis. Among the results, the lack of knowledge about Accounting Sciences among basic education students was highlighted as a factor influencing their professional choice. Regarding the promotion of undergraduate courses, the study revealed the need for more specific and motivating dissemination, whose absence may prevent many students, during the university entrance exam/ENEM period, from enrolling in the course and developing interest in the accounting profession.
