Formação social brasileira e patriarcado: fundamentos para análise da violência contra as mulheres

Abstract

Brazil presents one of the highest rates of homicide of women in the world, occupying the 5th position of a ranking of 83 countries, this is an indicator who shows the reality of violence against women in the country, the central object of this study. This work aims to analyze the implications of the patriarchal traits of the social, historical, economic and cultural formation of Brazil in the reality of violence against women. This is a qualitative research, carried out through bibliographic research, through which theoretical references relevant to the object of study were analyzed. In a first, we focus on the social, historical, economic and cultural formation of Brazil, seeking to point and analyze its patriarchal traits, for this purpose, we use as main references Florestan Fernandes, Octávio Ianni, Caio Prado Jr. and Darcy Ribeiro. In the second chapter, we focus on violence against women, characterizing their expressions and highlighting the important role played by the feminist movement in the elaboration of coping strategies for this violence. In this chapter, we also seek to relate the expressions of violence against women with the patriarchal traits analyzed in the first chapter of this work. In the third chapter, we analyze the social policies in neoliberalism, recovering the particularities of the social issue in Brazil and the process of counter-reformation of the State in the decade of 1990. In this sense, we seek to analyze the implications of the implementation of neoliberalism in the expressions of violence experienced by Brazilian women and in coping with this violence. According to the research developed, it is possible to demonstrate that the patriarchal traits of Brazilian social formation show elements of continuity in the course of the historical development of the country, which substantiate the persistence of violence against women in present.
