Intelectuais e crise: a crise da democracia brasileira à luz de Reinaldo Azevedo e Luiz Felipe Pondé (2014–2018)

Abstract

In recent years, Brazilian politics has undergone a series of transformations, such as the rise and centrality of the far right in political debate. In light of this, the research aims to analyze how Reinaldo Azevedo and Luiz Felipe Pondé, intellectuals linked to the right wing, analyzed the process from their newspaper columns in Folha de São Paulo. Both contributed to agendas that were incorporated into Bolsonarism, but did not openly support the candidate. Reinaldo Azevedo created lexical items that were fundamental in the formation of anti-PT sentiment, and Luiz Felipe Pondé established himself as a major critic of “politically correct” discourse. Thus, we intend to observe how the right wing competed for political space not only with the Workers' Party, but also among themselves. By analyzing these nuances, we aim to understand how sectors of the right wing itself dealt not only with the far right, but also with the radicalization of agendas and actors in the field.
