O biodiesel como alternativa aos combustíveis fósseis no Brasil: uma análise dos aspectos econômicos e ambientais

Abstract

The use of non-renewable energy sources causes serious environmental impacts, compromising environmental balance and, consequently, the quality of life of the population. In this context, this study analyzes the use of renewable fuels in comparison with non-renewable fuels in Brazil, with a focus on diesel and biodiesel. The main objective of this work is to present the current scenario of the consumption of these fuels in the country, as well as their importance within the national energy and economic landscape. To this end, materials addressing the themes of economics, environment, and sustainable energy were analyzed. The study examines aspects related to the market structure of diesel and biodiesel, the opportunity costs involved in biofuel production, and the externalities arising from the use of these energy sources. The results indicate that Brazil has advantages in expanding the participation of renewable fuels in its energy matrix, especially due to its availability of natural resources and productive capacity. However, the continued dependence on fossil fuels highlights the need for public policies and energy planning capable of reconciling economic growth, energy security, and environmental preservation.
