dc.description.abstractSmile aesthetics exerts a direct influence on the perception of personal image, social interactions, and individual self-esteem, establishing itself as a demand of contemporary society for Dentistry. Among the therapeutic alternatives available for the correction of gummy smile, gingivectomy / gingivoplasty stands out as a periodontal procedure. Through a clinical case report supported by relevant literature, this study demonstrates the step-by-step technique. At the conclusion of the report, it is evident that the procedure, when correctly indicated and performed based on judicious periodontal planning, constitutes an effective tool for the harmonization of dentogingival aesthetics. It contributes not only to the maintenance of functional periodontal health but also to the improvement of the patient's self-esteem by promoting a more balanced, natural smile that meets the aesthetic expectations of the individual.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoA estética do sorriso exerce influência direta na percepção da imagem pessoal, nas interações sociais e na autoestima dos indivíduos, configurando-se como uma demanda da sociedade contemporânea frente à Odontologia. Entre as alternativas terapêuticas disponíveis para a correção do sorriso gengival, a gengivectomia / gengivoplastia destaca-se como procedimento periodontal. Este trabalho demonstra, por meio de um relato de caso clínico embasado pela literatura correlata pertinente, a técnica comentada passo a passo. Ao final do relato, pode-se perceber que o procedimento, quando corretamente indicado e realizado a partir de um planejamento periodontal criterioso, constitui uma ferramenta eficaz para a harmonização da estética dentogengival, contribuindo, não apenas para a manutenção da saúde funcional periodontal, mas, também, para a melhora da autoestima do paciente, ao promover um sorriso mais equilibrado, natural e compatível com as expectativas estéticas do indivíduo assistido.pt_BR
