Vá com a deusa: o amenizar do fim através da devoção à Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte séculos XVIII e XIX

Abstract

This paper has got as theme the devotion to “Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte” in the state of Minas Gerais (Brazil) during XVIII and XIX centuries. The devotion was used as a strategy to soften the ancient fear of death, strongly linked to the imaginary collective. Look up to realize the devotion as result of a process whose roots ascend to the imaginary medieval, worked with the idea that Catholicism, the pastoral politic from the church and the society in a general view, had been influenced by the remains of deaths’s fear. Concerning the used sources, it divides in primary manuscripts sources, primary printed sources and a support bibliography. It tries to compare the informations founded in a many documents from that time with consulted bibliography. This study allowed us to understand how people are able to input new meanings and other significations to stipulated practices. To the people that lived in Minas Gerais in the XVIII and XIX centuries religiosity was in depth than appearance or the other exterior aspects from the faith. Religiosity had an intense and deep meaning, it disclose interlaced with quotidian.
