Abstract

This thesis is the result of reflections on the work of Arthur Schopenhauer which focus on the origin of holiness in the metaphysical system of this philosopher. Starting from objections made to the Kantian philosophy, Schopenhauer established the Will as thing in itself. The thesis attempts to follow the argumentative structure The World As Will and Representation, in continuous dialogue with Platonic and Kantian philosophy and taking into account the main religious matrices considered by the author. The importance of this issue within the scope of Schopenhauer’s philosophy is obvious. Holiness is regarded by the author as the possible result of single pulse of Will, but it is more precisely its self-denial, which can lead to the liberation of man, and through him of the whole nature which is attached to a continuous objectivation of blind Will which produces suffering. The relevance of this thesis can is also be made present in a wiser discussion of how to think about values held by religions through pure philosophical argument.
