O encaixe de construções de discurso reportado na prótase de condicionais: uma abordagem sociocognitiva

Abstract

The intention of contribuiting with the description and analisis of constructions of Brazilian Portuguese, constructions, hitherto, not studied is one of the purposes of Cognitive Linguistics, in which we are anchored. The pattern under investigation in this dissertation is a type of conditional with reported speech embedded in its protasis – it is the Se X dicendi Y, Z model. The conditionality, object of study of Sweetser & Dancygier (2005) and Ferrari (1999, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009), is seen, in this essay, from the used based model of Goldberg's Construction Grammar (1995, 2006), Croft (2004) and Salomão (2009) and the presuppositions of Mental Spaces Theory (FAUCONNIER 1994, 1997). We propose, here, a cognitive aproach focused on conditionality, putting in relief the link between grammatical construction and mental spaces, contemplating the contributions of reported speech, in terms of Rocha (1999, 2004), Sanders & Redeker (1996) and Cutrer (1994). Thereby, together with the Linguistic of Corpus (SARDINHA, 2004), we make use of corpora that shows the behavior of our construction, specifically in the corpus CETEM-Folha. The analisis that will be presented during the study puts to view a half-opened pattern that was not very productive in the investigated sites. The lack of occurrences is justified due to factors such as the hypothetical character determined by the conditionality, in communion with the argumentative property of the construction. That reduces the illocutionary force of the reported speech and cause, in journalistic media, characteristic for reporting the other's voice, we do not find many uses of Se X dicendi Y, Z. Regarding the configuration of mental spaces of the instances, we note that in all of them, there is a certain similarity. What caught our attention is the varied positioning of the viewpoint in the diagramming of the mental spaces, which leads us to think in non-uniformity of the conditional epistemic posture in the constructions that we studied, besides the uniform neutral and negative stances. We focus, though, the typical argumentative game of this pattern, seeing that the protasis, to bear the mark of the hypothesis, appears as preparing the ground for which the speaker defends his point of view subsequently, in apodosis. Finally, we discuss the enrichment of the concept of construction. By the postulates of Fillmore, Dancygier, Sweetser and Ferrari, theories, such as mental spaces, were added to the concept of constructions proposed by Goldberg and gave more dynamic to the analysis model of argument structure constructions developed by the author.
