Luta social por reconhecimento: a ficção como espaço de transição no conto “O amor em Lobito Bay”

Abstract

All over her anthology of short stories, Lídia Jorge allows the reader to see the possibilities and implications of a social struggle for recognition. “Throughout Love in Lobito Bay” (2016), we will analyze the perspectives that underlie the intersection between literature, love and law, within the framework of the social esteem of its characters. It will be considered the point of view of the processes of construction of fiction, their forms of disrespect, and finally, the struggle for recognition that produces impacts on the self-realization of the subject and delineates the identity of a community. In order not to sweep away and neglect the processes of mutual identification, the dynamics experienced in the struggle for colonial independence in “Lobito Bay” is propagated by the repression and degradation of various forms of acceptance denounced in Lídia Jorge's narrative. Therefore, the aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate how the fiction, through love, law and solidarity - proposed by Axel Honneth - serves to (re) construct identities and that when the processes of institutionalization fail, it is not only the dynamics of interpretation of the individual in relation to the other that is compromised, but the very foundations of democracy.
